Having great knowledge about different cheeses and having Exquisite and rare cheeses in your house shows wealth and knowledge which are two very attractive qualities of the upper class in European Society. it shows that you have money to spend on luxuries such as cheese which are paired with a basic necessity of bread. the poor eat bread with nothing on it but they’re rich eat bread with exquisite and expensive cheeses. I personally love cheese but those with lactose intolerance would have issue with this tradition.

Eating pears
In the Chinese culture, it is a saying that if you share a pear with someone else, then the two of you will be separated at one point in life and then forever. If one wants to eat a pear he or she must either finish it by himself or herself or split it with three people. I think it is endearing because if you split a pear, you split a “pair” which has a bittersweet message.
The color red
The color red is supposed to bring joy prosperity and luck to whoever wears. It is especially important during Chinese New Year where everyone wants luck and prosperity for the new year. My mother and grandmother dressed me in red for every new year and wedding which I enjoyed from an early age.
Cleaning of the house
During Chinese New Year, a family must clean their house in order to have good luck the year. It is symbolic of cleaning out all the evil in the home. My mom and grandmother used to clean their homes when I was younger before the Lunar New Year in order to clean out the bad spirits and bad energy in the house that could be there from the past year. It also cleans out the house to let in the good luck of the new year. I enjoy this part of the holiday because it is an excuse to clean the house but also provides a positive attitude to ring in the new year.
Geisha
She is the symbol of beauty and perfection, the perfect woman. She is fair-skinned, with dark long hair tied up, which shows wealth. She is dressed in all silks which shows she comes from a powerful family which is ideal in arranged marriages. My mom told me when she was a little girl she had one hanging because she was told if she had a geisha hanging in her room she would become just like her. She was the epitome of a role model for the perfect woman girls wanted to become. She has been the model of the perfect woman since the ancient Chinese times. I had a threaded picture of a Geisha in my room when I was a little girl as well as my mother so I am fond of the figure.
