The Haunted Radisson Hotel – Tucson

Text

R – “Okay, so it was May, and I was in Arizona. We (himself and his co-workers) were staying in a hotel because we lived in Glendale Arizona but were in Tuscon for work. I just got off of work and went to go take a shower. I shower, hop out grab a towel, look in the mirror and all I see is a little girl staring back at me. She had blonde hair and was wearing a blue shirt. I could see it vividly. Then I wiped my face and eyes and she was gone. I went downstairs to the desk and asked if this hotel was haunted. The worker said he didn’t think so, so I followed up asking if someone had died in the hotel. The worker then said plenty of people had died in this hotel, so I asked if a little girl died in the hotel. The worker said no just older people. So, I asked if there were any murders and the worker quickly said that he could not answer the question. I looked it up and found out that a lot of workers have reported hearing child-like giggling when alone.”

Interviewer – “What did you do after that incident?”

R – “Of course, I slept in my coworker’s room because I am not dealing with that.”

Context –

This story occurs in The Radisson in Tucson Arizona a few years back. R, 29, is originally from Washington State but has since moved to numerous states and countries due to being in the Air Force. This story takes place during one of his work trips for the Air Force.

Analysis –

After hearing about this encounter, I researched The Radisson Hotel in Tucson and found plenty of recounts of paranormal occurrences and murders. Others have encountered similar experiences including TVs and lights chaotically flickering like someone is playing with them, or crying sounds heard in the ballroom. However, I was not able to find a claim that fully supports R’s event of a little girl. Despite not finding exact matching claims I think that R was speaking his truth about the situation due to him normally being a paranormal skeptic and similar stories.

Familial Haunting

Text –

T – “When I was growing up, my grandfather was a pain. We lived in a house with a basement, living area, then an attic. Every time we would leave the house we would turn our lights off. Well, every time we came home the lights would be on. It was eery. Then in the middle of the night, he would pace the attic floor and turn on the TVs when we were sleeping. He didn’t do much else but he always did that. That was my experience with my grandfather… or maybe another spirit, in my childhood home.”

Context –

This story was told by T, age 32, born and raised in western Washington. She tells me about who she believes to be her grandfather who haunted her childhood home. However, she has some doubts about if it was truly her grandfather. Since growing up, T has not been to her childhood home again and is unsure if there have been any recent updates on the spirit she believes roams the attic.

Analysis –

The part of Washington we are from has notoriously old homes with a lot of history from being on native lands and tales from the old lumber age when the town was in its glory. I personally think there was some form of spirit messing with T’s family. My most likely guess is it is her Grandfather as he would have a familial connection as well as that the haunts did not start until his death.

Context: This story occurred to MG when they were about fourteen years old and taking a shower in their house in the Philippines. They were in the Philippines for vacation just visiting relatives and stayed at their residence there, which was built over a church, and knew prior to visiting that it was haunted.

Text of Piece: When traveling to their house in the Philippines, they knew it was haunted already, so they came scared for vacation, and being there for a week already had frightened them enough. She ended up taking a shower near eight o’clock at night before going with friends, and her entire family was still home.

She started up the shower and was already showering when she heard the door open, saw feet on the floor, and a silhouette glided past the shower curtain. She thought it was her mom or sister going to go use the toilet or something, so she didn’t really care, but once she opened the curtain, there was nobody there.

MG then screamed, causing her mother to rush to the bathroom. She then told her mom what had happened, to which her mom replied that everyone was in the bedroom. The entire family ended up getting more scared, and they still had to stay two more weeks. More ghost stories ended up occurring after that, but currently, they do not own the house anymore.

I have had similar experiences in my own house, so hearing this story was very relatable and believable. I do believe that places can be haunted, but I myself have not encountered a building that was said to be haunted. Some part of me does want to try adventuring to find one for fun, so maybe in the future I will be able to explore and confirm or falsify this belief for myself.

Context: This story occurred to JE when they were about eight years old and visiting relatives in the Philippines near Boracay. This story does come to their mind a lot as they still frequently visit the Philippines, and they make sure to never stray away from groups of people.

One time when JE went to the Philippines. he was visiting his grandpa and grandma in Boracay. His grandma would always tell him stories about the duendes, which are little ghost people that live in the ground, but he personally did not believe it at the time because he thought they were like moles. They told him that he should never be alone and watch his belongings as they were known for taking belongings and taking away little children who wander off by themselves.

He was greeting his relatives as usual and checking out the farm and livestock as he thought that it was very interesting that they were farmers. They were having dinner in his relatives’ backyard with a lot of Filipino dishes, music playing, and a lot of talking. He then heard a noise coming from a darker area of the house near the actual farmland and decided to check it out, just out of curiosity.

The further he got away from the dinner, the louder the noises got. He knew he was pretty far from the dinner in the dark and suddenly heard the noise coming from multiple directions which scared him. He ran away because he was really scared and ended up telling his parents and grandma about it, to which they confirmed that he encountered duendes.

From that point on, he has developed a fear of dark areas, being taken away, and making sure to stay with his parents. Throughout the rest of the trip, he kept a tight watch on his belongings and surroundings as he held a firm belief that the duendes would still try to take him away.

I personally grew up hearing about duendes, but although I have never been to the Philippines, after hearing many stories about them, they did seem very believable to me. As a kid, my parents always told me to behave and not wander off because of duendes, which did scare me as a kid, but now I don’t really believe in them.

One of my friend told me about the north building of his middle school. The North Building has eight floors above ground and three below ground. However, it is said that there is a haunted B4 that is permanently closed. It is said that in the 2000s, a student fell from an upper floor, crashed through the ventilation shaft on the ground, fell to the B4 level, and died. So the school sealed B4 forever. In the stairwell leading to the basement, down to B3, there is still a staircase to go down, but it is locked by a huge iron fence. People are said to have broken in, heard cries and screams in the area, and seen bloody handprints on the walls.

Context: This is a story told by my friend. This story is usually told to freshmen by senior students when they first enter the school. These teenagers often have a curious mindset and explore in school, telling and boasting about their adventures and original supernatural stories in an exaggerated tone

Personal Thought: The tragedy of the students falling from the building should be real. I have read about it in the local newspapers and media. However B4’s ghost stories may have been concocted by students seeking excitement and boldness. I’m not sure about the existence of that floor, but if it exists, it’s probably just a regular equipment room and storage room. However, the ghost story has become a part of campus culture, inspiring generations of students to run stairwell expeditions and legend quests. This kind of exploration also made me know many new classmates and formed deep friendship with them. The story itself, to a certain extent, also reminds students not to climb outside the window mischievously to prevent the danger of falling.
